How To Monitor Trees With a Soil Moisture Sensor and Get Text Alerts

Details on Using Moisture Sensors to Get Alerts if Your Plants are Wilting
I have a garden where all of the plant seem to die. I’ve replanted trees there at least 4 times.
The problem is that I we have secondary irrigation that can be unreliable. Sometimes the main pump will go out, and other times, the water pressure is too low and the water from the sprinklers doesn’t reach the plants. I’ve lost hundreds of dollars worth of new plants because of this problem.
If I knew there was an irrigation problem before the plants reached their wilting point, I could use a hose sprinkler to save them.
Newly planted trees are very vulnerable because they don’t have a mature root system. I need a way of being notified if the soil moisture ever gets too low.
I’ve come up with a novel solution to protect my garden investment. I’m going to install a soil moisture sensor, that will send me an email alert if the soil moisture reaches a critically low level.
I’m going to use a Vegetronix VH400 Soil Moisture Sensor, and a VegeHub Wifi Data Logger which reads the sensor, and will send me an email message if there is a problem. The data can also be sent to my sprinkler controller to automatically lengthen watering times.
I’ve buried he VH400 Soil Moisture Sensor at root level, and configured the VegeHub to send me a text message if the soil moisture drops past a critical level.
